So, I came across this list - the awesome Glenn Packard at iHorror posted this and I didn't want to lose it. To see the original content, click here. As I have said before, I am WAY behind on watching scary movies, so I would love to know what you think of any of these, and which one I should watch first.

Halloween (1978 Version)
A psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, escapes and stalks a bookish adolescent girl and her friends while his doctor chases him through the streets.
Director:
John Carpenter
My Review:
With Halloween right around the corner, I am really enjoying watching some of the classic horror movies, movies I haven't seen in many, many years. Halloween would be one of those movies.
Are parts of it ridiculous? Of course, just like all slasher movies, this one has areas where you question the person for doing things they do. But, I think Michael Myers has always been my favorite slasher, over Freddy and Jason. There is just something more ominous about a young boy who has killed his sister, and then escapes from an institution to find the sister that got away (well, she was an infant at the time of the original murder). Of course the franchise goes on to make a bunch more movies, and I will probably review these at some point. Do they go overboard, just like the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises? Absolutely. But, this original horror movie is still worth the watch to this day. I loved watching it, just like I did the first time I saw it.
Have you seen it? I'd love to hear your thoughts, on this or any other horror movie you might like.

You must reach for the sky. . .
. . . before you can touch it.
I was chatting the other day with a friend of mine and he
said something that caught my attention, he said my readers want to know more
about me, they want to know who BawB is. So I walked away from that
conversation wondering who I am, really, and all I could come up with was that
I’m a nobody that took some time to share his spiritual beliefs and inspiration
with the world, and then I remembered my favorite saying that I have chosen to
make my “Mantra” everybody that is a somebody started out as a nobody.
That’s right, I am a nobody today, I am one with the world,
a being that is akin to all other beings, I breathe, I smile, therefore I am.
But, now I am different than all the other wonderful nobody’s in the world
because I have done something that might make me a somebody one day. I am a
published author, by no means am I “like” the great published authors of the
world, but I followed my dreams and I chose to try my best at something I was
comfortable doing.
The more I think about it, the more I recognize all the somebody’s
out there, all of my friends, all of their friends and all of their children’s
friends, they are all somebody’s as yet unrecognized. How many lifetimes have
we ambled our paths, wondering who we are, has anybody ever asked you about
you? Have you ever had the pleasure of introducing yourself as the best you
that the world has ever seen? Well, try it one day, believe in yourself that
much and see how it feels to be a somebody. Take a moment in the next day or
two to answer this question; who am I? And see who you come up with. What do
you do? What would you like to do? What makes you happy and have you enjoyed it
recently?
As for me, well let me introduce myself again, but this time
as a somebody that nobody recognizes … Yet! I am BoB aka BawB, I am a writer, I
have spent most of this lifetime seeking the easiest path I could find to
happiness. I found it, it was right under my feet for the entire time, I just
had to believe I was happy being me. I believe in life, and I feel like I am a
better person inside because I share the wonders of living, I have no worries
when it comes to sharing a smile and I have a million left because I AM happy
being me.
Look up today and see the sky, then reach with all your
might
Every cloud is a dream of yours, make it real and hold on
tight.

Halloween 2 - 2009
Director:
Rob ZombieWriter:
Rob ZombieLaurie Strode struggles to come to terms with her brother Michael's deadly return to Haddonfield, Illinois; meanwhile, Michael prepares for another reunion with his sister.
MY REVIEW:
The Halloween series has been one of my favorites for many years. For some reason Michael Myers has always creeped me out. I think it partially has to do with the mask (even if it is William Shatner, lol) and the fact that he doesn't speak. Sure, he can't be killed, but you get over that and just enjoy the movies for what they are.
With that said, I was a little disappointed in this remake of the 1981 original. I have to admit I haven't seen a Rob Zombie remake before this so I don't know if this is typical of his style. If so, I may just steer clear. I get it, these are pretty simple plots (if you even want to call it that). Killer wants to kill. People want to live. There was just something about this one that left a lot to be desired. Pretty unbelievable, considering there usually isn't much to these types of movies. I do know that Donald Pleasance adds a lot as Dr. Loomis in the original and maybe that has something to do with it. I don't know, just wasn't a fan.
What did you think?
Scary recommedations
So, Halloween season is upon us. And I for one am extremely excited! This is my absolute favorite time of year - it has been since I was young. The change in colors and temperature, the decorations that people put out, and all sorts of delightful things to watch on tv...the scarier the better.
But, I do have a confession to make. Over the years my time has become pretty limited, and having to younger kids who are around at night when I do most of my tv watching, it makes it hard to watch anything too scary. I have made a promise to myself that I am going to try and fit in two horror/thriller/suspense movies a week. Now, here's where you come in. I am needing some recommendations. Send them my way, I'd love to hear what you think is a movie that might scare me.
And, please don't stop with movies - tv shows, books, blogs, whatever you can find. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Thanks for your help!

The other day I
read an interview article about author Nicholas Sparks in the October 2014
issue of GQ. Nicholas Sparks has experienced the kind of writing success that
most of us can only dream about. The author of The Notebook has written more successful romance novels than I can
count on two hands.
I’ve never
cracked one of his novels, so this article did me a favor by giving me a peek
inside. Reading another author’s work allows me to experience another person’s
life view. In Nicholas Sparks’ case, it’s also a chance to see what appeals to
millions of female fans. I appreciated that GQ viewed Sparks’ work as a window
into the romantic female psyche.
One
characteristic of Sparks’ work singled out by GQ was his description of men in
tight jeans.
“As he worked, his jeans pulling tight as he bent
over, Sophia felt the heat rise in her cheeks.”
Seriously? After
I read that line I realized that if I have to write like that, I’ll never
succeed like Sparks. I can’t even think those lines, much less write them.
Now, I don’t
begrudge Sparks’ success or writing style. His writing obviously touches
countless fans and that’s a good thing. What fascinates and amazes me is the glaring
difference in Starks’ writing style and view of romance from my own. This
extends to the dialogue of his romantic male leads and their romantic letter
writing. The samples quoted by GQ suggest a bland sparse discourse that reminds
me of a conversation I had at the dawn of puberty.
It was during
the summer at the end of junior high. A buddy of mine, who had moved away,
returned for a visit. We took off on our bikes looking to have a good time or
so I thought. He wanted to stop by this girl’s house to say ‘hello,’ a hot
girl. Her house was along the way to where we were going. In truth, her house was
where we were going.
They sat on the
porch and talked about nothing. I swear to God I’ve never heard as boring a
conversation in my entire life. I have more interesting conversations with the
police officers who pull me over for speeding.
“You nearly lost
control of your vehicle making that U turn,” the cop said.
“I was in total
control,” I said.
“You know, I was
going to give you a warning but if you’re going to hit me attitude…”
“I’m sorry, I’m
sorry, you’re right.”
For the record, it
was a left turn, and I was sliding my car around the corner on purpose. Thankfully,
he let me go with only a warning. I was driving a black, Porsche 944 Turbo in
the middle of Brentwood, California. And there are few things as fun as sliding
a Porsche around a corner, but I digress.
The conversation
between my buddy and the hot chick consisted of bland banalities.
“What have you done this summer?” Buddy.
“I’m learning to type.” Chick
“What can you type?”
“I can type Jeff,” The name of chick’s then
boyfriend, who, by the way, had a more active sex life in high school than I’ve
had in my entire life.
They even
discussed the moss growing on the top step leading up to the front porch where
we were located. I was thinking, “Okay, you’ve said ‘hello’ can we go now?” I
obviously didn’t get it, and we never left. Some part of my soul is still stuck
on that porch playing wingman from hell.
Reading excerpts
of Sparks’ male dialogue confirms that this mindless drivel works for women.
I’ve been doing it wrong my entire life. That’s too bad for me, because I’d
have to have a lobotomy to speak like that. No disrespect to my buddy or the
hot chick. Obviously they were quite content with the moss on the top step
colloquy.
Now, I hope I never
write boring dialogue or describe how a man looks in tight jeans or write about
love letters. I also hope that there are women who will still enjoy my work
despite its lack of the above. Only time will tell if such women readers exist.
I’m hoping that they do.
Oh, and if you
ever get the chance to take a Porsche on a racetrack and slide it sideways
around a curve, take it! So long as you don’t kill yourself, it’s a great time.

You think, "Lord, should I answer this call?" Sometimes, you have to push the call-end button. Quite frankly, I find myself doing it more often. It’s not because I don’t want to be of service, but it’s hard to help someone who becomes rebellious against assistance. So, help if you can. But, know that it’s OK to let him/her go so you can grow.
Remember when you were a kid and had imaginary talks with yourself about growing up?
Yeah me too! I can still hear my mother saying, “You better stay a child as long as you can.” Momma told me there would be days when I wish I were still a kid. And you know what? “She ain’t ever lied!” Despite my age, I still need her help. I never anticipated facing so many challenges as an adult. From me to you…Just be careful with what you wish.
