David McCaleb is a thriller author, entrepreneur, business owner, veteran, USAFA grad, proud husband, and father. MEET THE AUTHOR

June Shaw lives along a lazy bayou in south Louisiana. She became a young widow with five children, completed a college degree, and started teaching junior high students. Then her deferred dream of becoming a writer took hold.

Between grading papers and being involved in her growing children’s activities, she sold stories and learned to write plays. She won a playwriting contest in Boston, and two of her short plays were produced Off-Off Broadway. A short screenplay she wrote aired on a channel for the arts in New Orleans.

MEET THE AUTHOR

I live just north of Ocala, Florida, the Horse Capitol of the World. I have a herd of fat, lazy Arabians (and the occasional Thoroughbred) on 40 beautiful acres. One of the Arabians actually works for a living— Ivory Shaddara ++++//, AKA “Dumpling”. We show at Arabian shows all over the eastern US at the Regional and National level. I also have a bunch of spoiled German Shepherds which I enjoy showing.  We’re joined by a variety of turtles, tortoises and some very obnoxious cockatiels.

To avoid farm work as much as possible, I keep busy with other interests: writing Romance novels, illustrating, playing the harp, keyboard and guitar, creating jewelry, and building Victorian dollhouses. I studied Iaido, the art of Japanese swordsmanship, for many years and  I also love beadwork, needlework, photography, cake decorating and amateur astronomy. There are too many possibilities in this world to do only one or two things in life.

I have been a professional fantasy illustrator and have won many awards for my work. I am the Secretary of the Ocala Arabian Horse Association, and am on the Board of Directors of the White German Shepherd Dog Club of America. I am a member of the Romance Writers of America and the Tampa Area Romance Authors.

But even with all this, at the end of the day I still find the time to just sit on my Victorian porch, surrounded by my dogs, watching the horses graze under the moss-covered oaks. And as I greet my beloved stars, I dream of the songs, stories and visions the coming night will bring…

Meet the Author:

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a princess…

Growing up, I was a proficient story teller, with most of my plots encompassing princesses and princes and dreams coming true. Now as an author, some of my stories are still about royalty, knights, duels, ladies, intrigue, betrayal. History fascinates me and I try to bring history back to life in each of my stories.

My favorite time periods are medieval, renaissance and Regency eras of Europe. Growing up, I was lucky to have grandparents who lived in Paris, so many a summer was spent exploring medieval ruins and historical sites.

One of my all time favorite books is Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte, and I am of course Jane Austen fan, my two favorites being Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. I love the in-depth, emotionally riveting and intriguing works of historical author, Ken Follett. I am also a fan of Shakespeare, and you will find in a lot of my writing reference to the literary God and his work. Not only Shakespeare, but other period poets and literary notables of history are on my keeper shelf. My love affair with the romance genre started young. I picked up my first romance novel, The Bride, by Julie Garwood when I was in high school, and I haven’t been able to stop reading or writing romance since.

There was no other truth but the one in front of him, and he was done running from it. “You didn’t lose me,” Jonah breathed, their faces so close his hat tipped back and fell to the ground behind him. Pryce’s hot breath coated Jonah’s lips with a teasing taste of him. “But you lost me,” he said and met Jonah’s gaze. “So it’s true.” Jonah’s angry words sliced through the cold air between them. “You’re marrying Chloe.” Familiar resentment rose to the surface and he didn’t bother to fight it. He pressed his hips against Pryce’s, feeling the hard lie Pryce was about to tell for what it was. Even if he was in love with the traitorous bitch, Pryce couldn’t deny the truth any more than he could. “Did you tell her about us?” Pryce licked his lips, his body tensing in response to the seductive contact he still so obviously craved, his gaze dropping to Jonah’s mouth. “There is no us,” he breathed. “It was only one kiss.” “Wrong.” Jonah descended on his mouth, prodding with his tongue until he pushed past Pryce’s lips to claim the boy-turned-man the way he’d craved since the last time their lips touched. Pryce pushed against his chest with a protesting grunt, but his token resistance subsided when their tongues clashed in a frantic duel. Jonah pressed his weight against him, trapping him against the trailer, countering each of Pryce’s desperate strokes with his own. The long denied need for his best friend’s taste drove him to reach deeper. He gripped Pryce’s face and tipped his head back, their teeth clicking together in their haste for more. Welcomed heat flooded Jonah’s veins as he thrust his tongue alongside Pryce’s as deep as he could reach before retreating and moving in for another drugging taste. Damn, he’d needed this. Pryce threaded his fingers through his hair and pulled him closer. The vibrant sting to his scalp raced to Jonah’s groin and a growl rumbled through his chest. He ground his cock against the ample bulge in Pryce’s jeans, extracting a mirroring desperate groan from him before Pryce twisted away, gasping for air. Reluctantly, Jonah backed off, but didn’t release him. He braced his forearm against the trailer beside Pryce’s head, their feverish breaths billowing around them in a cloud of desire and lust. With a firm grip on Pryce’s chin, he gazed down at him, nowhere near satisfied. “Now there’s two kisses,” Jonah panted. “And you can bet your ass there will be more.” He punctuated his point by trailing his lips along Pryce’s jawline, the seductive feel of his five-o’clock stubble making them both release a shuddering breath. Pryce shoved him away and Jonah let him go. He hadn’t taken more than a step when Pryce cursed. “Chloe?” Jonah glanced back at him, then over to the open barn door where Chloe stood frozen, her eyes wide with shock. “Chloe, it’s not what—dammit wait!” She bolted like a spooked colt and Pryce shot out of the barn after her. “Chloe!”

Do you like stories set in unusual or exotic locations? How about unique or interesting occupations? Combine both, wrap them around romance and adventure, and that’s the kind of reading that takes you places!

It’s also a style of writing for Monica McCabe. Always a bit of an adventuress, she’s lived in and explored places like Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Florida, Mexico, California, Maine, Washington, Canada, and yes, even Las Vegas. At every location she seized the opportunity to explore, hike, camp, raft, canoe, fly, ski, scuba-dive, or zip-line. She’s climbed glaciers and ancient Mayan pyramids, dived shipwrecks and reef caves, camped in sasquatch country, drove across the USA three times, and is now working on gathering as many official stamps in her National Park passport as she can. So far, nineteen and counting.

Also an avid reader, the writing bug bit her hard somewhere between Alaska and Montana. Slowing down enough to actually put words on paper took a while longer. She scribbled notes, played at writing a historical romance (her favorite reading), but it wasn’t until she landed in Tennessee that writing became a passion.

Now that she’s sprouted roots alongside her husband of seventeen years, tossed in two lazy cats and two happy dogs, she’s finally turned that wanderlust into crafting stories of adventure and romance.
